Hi, PETER COGGON! How are you?
on Thursday, 15 of March, you wrote to ALEXANDER KORYAGIN about
"Re: Hello Alexander [1/2]"

AK>> And the name Stalingrad (the city of Stalin) was highly important. I
AK>> strongly believe that if the name fo the city had been another the
AK>> soviet army could not have held it in its hands. The same is true when
AK>> we are speaking about defence of Leningrad (the city of Lenin).

PC> Didn't they change the names of the citys back to their original
PC> names after the USSR collapsed, and RUSSIA emerged as RUSSIA ?

Stalingrad was renamed in 1961 to Volgograd (city on the Volga river), its
original name till 1925 was Czaricin (city of the czarina). Until now its
name is Volgorgad.
Leningrad before 1924 (and before 1917) had Russian name Petrograd (city of
Piter), but in 1991 it was renamed to Petersburg (German name). It is a grim
irony that after the WW2, with Germans, the city got German name, not
Russian one. For defenders of Leningrad it was a hard blow.

PC> Anyhow, those citys mean something to the people of that period
PC> the same as they mean now. I saw some of the restoration done
PC> in St. Petersburg. What a lovely city! It would mean the same
PC> for anyone's capital citys. It is a point of moral boosting and
 PC> pride.

I don't think that they mean the same. We are different people now. I think
we love more real estate than the city itself. Like Parisian did when Hitler
came to the city. And the city surrended and property was preserved.

 AK>> We of course
AK>> can imagine poor picture that the US would begin the war in Europe
AK>> using atomic boms ... but if Soviet Union had collapsed quickly (as it
AK>> must be if it had been a usual state) the US had not enough time to
AK>> develope enough bombs. And the US would have become the primary target
AK>> as Hitler knew about developing of the atomic weapon in the US.

PC> I have never seen anything about Hitler knowing anything about the
PC> Bomb program in North America. The allies hid the start of the
PC> project in Northern Canada. No agents up there for spying.
PC> The test pile for the bomb while still "HOT" today, is in or near
PC> a US city...and the spent material ended up in an old mine in Ontario
PC> where today it is leaking, and civilians are dieing, and the fish
PC> in the nearby river are HOT. They have tried to keep it quiet,
PC> but everyone knows, and cancer there is quite high, as well some
PC> other telltell signs of Nuclear activity or materials. I think
PC> they've tried to patch it all...but then everywhere there is this
 PC> problem...

Yes it is awful that scientists knew a little about the radiation harmness.
For example Maria Curie as I read made her experiments right at home. As for
bomb I can say that scientists knew the principle of the bomb, both American
and German. And in German it was very easy to surmise what did the
scientists which emigrated to the US.

PC> Hitler also instructed all military units to steer clear of US
PC> units, which was a thorn to the Uboats in the Atlantic.

Why? He had already been in war with the US.

PC> As for the US using the nukes in Europe, that would have been
PC> in 1944 or 1945 if they wanted this, but there is another debate
PC> why it wasn't done too. Maybe not enough bombs for both places.?
PC> Or perhaps thre was pressure not to use it in Europe due to
PC> many having familys in Europe...and then too, it was coming up
PC> election time, and he would not want that as ammo for his rival.
PC> Despite other issues Mr. Trueman was elected President.

The first atomic explosion was conducted, as a test, at Alamogordo, New
Mexico, on July 16, 1945. So it could be used before that date.
By the way I observed another interesting thing. That many calamities on the
Earth are happening when the big leader suddenly dies, and his small gray
assistant comes to power. He straggles to be as important as his Big
forerunner and as a rule the war and calamities are very probable.
Roosevelt -> Truman = atomic bombardment; Kennedy -> Jonson = full scale
Vietnam war; Rabin ->? Intifada...

AK>> and more worse. "Not in vain" obligatory must mean a progress. But it
AK>> cannot be a progress in solving unrealizable tasks. The democracy in
AK>> Iraq has never been possible. The only thing the US was able to do is
AK>> to spark the civil war for power between kurds, shia, and sunni.

PC> It is the duty in the Geneva Convention of the ocupping power to
PC> maintain the peace and security of the civilians. There is a lot
PC> more to what they are supposed to be doing, but then there is these
PC> bombings etc...and well then this civil war going on, and all while
PC> Iraq has a government. They have taken care of electric power, and
PC> some water needs, but then US contractors have come there...huh
PC> when it should of been Arab contractors fixing their own country
PC> up again, using what they favour. No end in sight, and ...well
PC> it just boggles the mind.

It seems to me that Iraq was like an atom of uran 235, and American invasion
was like a neutron. It completely changed the stability of the country, and
I think Iraq inevitably is going to split into three parts. Nothing can stop
it because there is no anything which could unite the Iraqi people into a
single nation. May be exept a military dictatorship which must be even more
cruel one than Saddam's.

PC> Hey Alexander...spring has arrived here...The snow went from
PC> 2feet here deep and icey to next to nothing.

I wonder about snow. Sutton located at 44 degree latitude - that's more than
10 degrees to south than Moscow location! Like the Black Sea in Russia. ;)

PC> Tomorrow they even start taking the fish huts off the lake here...

The Simcoe lake is frosen during the winter? Really?

PC> So things are looking up at least here...and I can only do, as
PC> I always do and that is pray for peace, and let soldiers do what
PC> they really do best...Help people in flooded times, and other
 PC> circumstances.... talk again sometime.

It useless to feel keenly the inability to lift a heavy weight.

[...The road to hell is paved with good intentions]
Bye PETER!
Alexander
