Hello Matt.

31 Dec 06 23:23, you wrote to me:

 MB> Hello Jeff.

You mean the reality of those that have noticed and dealt with his
difference in behavior? Often times one's reality is based on how they choose
to perceive things.

MB> People have short memories and forget all too easily.

With me it's called impending sinility. <g>

MB> That, coupled with the fact that there is no shortage of energy (from
MB> the number of posts here) tells me that it doesnt matter who the
MB> editor is, you would not see any more articles in the snooze if there
 MB> were a different editor.

The quantity of posts here isn't IMO a fare indication of people's
likelyhood to submit articles. Most of the posts here either are flames,
name calling, or posts that have little to do with Fidonews. Many IMO
here post as they currently do because they know that they can say what they
chose and nothing will done or said about it.

MB> Sure, my detrators would say that they will
MB> post more if there was a new editor... And you can bet for the first
MB> few weeks, people would, just to fulfill that obligation... but
MB> ultimately, people would get bored of fulfilling those ogligations,
MB> fidonews would fall the wayside, and people would find something else
 MB> to bitch about.

Some will no doubt do as you suggest. But I think there will be others
that are less would look at a new editor and/or moderator as a reason

JS>> I take from your argument that your implying that as long as
JS>> an editor is willing to post articles that are submitted. How he
JS>> acts and how he behaves as editor and/or moderator makes no
JS>> difference. That he is free to act as he chooses regardless of
JS>> the negative impact that said behavior has on Fidonews. If that
JS>> is the case then I would have to disagree.

MB> Fair enough. But when you consider some of the hateful words people
MB> say here to one another you have to acknowledge that none of those who
MB> post here are bashful. So, I doubt anyone would be hesitant to post
 MB> an article anyway.

I disagree. From what I see people post the "hateful" things that they
do because it either entertains them or they enjoy the verbal jabbing.

MB> Really..Jeff..think about it. Of all the people
MB> who complain about things...how many articles do they submit? For
MB> their complaint to hold any water, they have to prove beyond a
MB> reasonable doubt that their ability to participate has been crippled.

I think you are confusing ability to post articles with willingness
to post articles. Awhile back I posted an article for a couple of reasons.
One of which was to speak up on some concerns that I had and another was
to see if the current editor would publish articles that did not speak
well of him. To his credit I was happy to state at the time as well as now
that he did. Athough people have the "ability" to post articles. I think
people choose not to bother. The BS here as well as their perception of the
editor are just two of the factors. I am discounting those that are here
just for the traffic and the entertainment that the current free-for-all
here provides. In fact several of the supporters of the current editor have
stated that they like the current conditions and see no reason that things
should be changed. The editor has not shown any disagreement with that
attitude. In this case I think that their support does more to harm Bjorn
than to help him.

JS>> The editor has feelings, opinions, beliefs just like
JS>> everyone else. But being and editor care must be taken to not let
JS>> those personal opinions affect their job as editor or moderator.

MB> We already covered that. In the current state of affairs, the only
MB> way a moderator can act is if those he is moderating happen to agree
 MB> with him.

Not nessesarily true. If people that although they may disagree or even
dislike the moderator perceive that moderator to be fair in his/her moderations
thay are more likely to listen to and abide by a moderation. I have had those
same experiences as a moderator. If a moderators behavior has led people to
think that he/she is biased or lets their personal opinins affect their
treatment of people in an echo. Then they are more likely to ignore and refuse.

MB> So, the moment the moderator attempts to direct moderation
MB> at those people, he is doomed.I already delivered several
MB> scenarios...it is the same way it happened in fn_sysop. I will say,
MB> Bjorn was part of that fn_sysop issue and that it is sort of ironic
MB> has happened to him here. But, when you align yourself with people
MB> who have no principles, you will find that they inevitably turn on
 MB> you!

JS>> They don't. But his views and his way of expressing them
JS>> could very well make people not want to bother with either
JS>> reading or writing articles. That is just one of the negative
JS>> effects that his behavior can have on the Fidonews.

MB> If they read this echo, which those who complain do, I doubt it any
MB> less likely they will skip over posts made by the fidonews robot. For
MB> those who don't read the echo, and fidonews only, are probaly
MB> completely unaware of what transpires here...so, unaware of anyone's
 MB> actions.

Currently, that may be a blessing.

 MB> Matt
