RB> Roy Witt wrote to Robert Bashe on Sunday October 19 2008 at 14:29:

RW>>>> That is what 'Mein Kamph' is all about. Those aren't facts, just
RW>>>> the rantings of a madman.

 RB>>> Unfortunately no.

RW>> I think so. It was written before he ever came to politics.

RB> No. It was written when he was in prison after the 1934 uprising in
 RB> Munich,

Wrong. Volume 1 of Mein Kampf was published in 1925 and volume 2 in 1926.

RB> dictated - if I remember correctly - to Rudolf Hess. Hitler
RB> had been in politics since the late 1920s, and after the 1934
RB> uprising was given a "slap on the wrist" by sympathetic judges who
RB> themselves were anything but politically neutral.

Take a nap, Bob...you're using dates that are ten years late. Adolph was
in power by 1934, therefore, he wouldn't have been imprisoned.

RW>> Had he lost his political goals, there may not have been anything
 RW>> more to it.

RB> Had Germany not been dragged into the depression and had the
RB> Versailles treaty in addition, the Nazis would probably never have
RB> amounted to much, but the facts are what the are.

Without overly expounding the issue, that's what I said.

RB> Remember the USA and the election of 1933. If Rossevelt hadn't become
RB> president, but rather some really radical instead - think of Huey
RB> Long - just imagine what could have happened in the States.

It wasn't pretty as it was, so I can't imagine anything worse.

RB>>> And actually I was thinking about things like "Das Mythos des 20.
 RB>>> Jahrhunderts" by Alfred Rosenberg.

RW>> Is there an English translation?

RB> I don't know, but you could try

 RB> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Myth_of_the_Twentieth_Century

There is. I'll read it later.

RB>>>>> You can "prove" anything you want as long as you base your
RB>>>>> arguments on belief and not hard facts.

RW>>>> Great! You do believe that Adolph was right then and all of his
RW>>>> madness was granted to him by God.

 RB> Are you nuts?

That was MY next question.

RB>>> Try not to ignore the quotation marks in my sentences the next
 RB>>> time.

RW>> Quotation marks are used by many here to emphasize their words.

RB> I either write capitals or use an underscore before and after the
RB> words. That's emphasis. Quotation marks, for me, are for quotations.

Everyone should use 'word' to emphasize. Quotation marks are for quoting
what someone else has written. Quoting a single word is hardly ever done.

 RB>>> You're waffling.

 RW>> Only Belgums waffle.

RB> I used the American term since I thought you'd be familiar with it.

I'd prefer the German word, wasseling. Those days are shortly upon us
here.

RW>> Why would you blindly obey anything?

RB>>> (the Germans say "Kadavergehorsam" and mean that every order,
RB>>> regardless of how crazy, evil or downright criminal, MUST be
 RB>>> obeyed).

RW>> That's German thinking for you.

 RB> And American,

Not. An American soldier has the right to refuse an order, if the order is
against the Military Code of Conduct. A citizen could refuse the order and
not worry about the code of conduct. (however, the circumstances may force
one to do something they dont' want to do, like wait in line at an
airport)

RB> and Russian and a lot of others. Any old port in a storm, and when
RB> your neck is on the block, it's always the other guy's fault.

Many of Calley's men refused to shoot civilians because of the Military
Code of Conduct.

RB> [Would it have been better to Hang Calley and scatter the ashes?]

RB>>> Actually, I think it would have. It would have shown that right is
RB>>> right and wrong is wrong, regardless of nationality.

RW>> That it would have. Perhaps then we wouldn't have seen the abuse of
RW>> Iraqi prisoners in Iraq. But then, the moral values of our youth
RW>> have been corrupted by modern technology.

RB> I Just don't know, Roy. I swore many years ago I'd never rant against
RB> "modern youth" because we did some pretty nasty things too when I was
RB> a kid. But sometimes the temptation is pretty hard to resist.

I did some rather nasty things too, in my youth. But we learned from that,
which is what modern youth has to do. When my kids came to me for advice
in certain situations, I always advised them that what I would do, isn't
what they're going to do. The reason for that is, I've been there and have
done that, but you (my kids) will only have my word for it. So, with that
they took my advice and applied their own logic and ideas to it and did
what they wanted to do anyway. Fortunately, they all had more brains than
I did at that age.
