A religion (or culture) doesn't have to be "dominant" to affect a society. All
it has to do is _aggressively_ pursue its aims. Look at the percentage of
muslims in the States and the fear of offending them because they have a
reputation for violence. That is also the case in Europe, but here in Europe
we're closer to the source and have higher percentages of muslims in the
societies. The non-muslim "man in the street" doesn't particularly care for
that situation, to put things mildly.

Another point is that Islam isn't merely a religion: it also involves politics
and law (remember the Sharia?), and as such is not as distanced from worldly
affairs as modern Christianity or Judaism.

Like the people who organized 9/11, those who practice "honor" killings and the
like? In an ideal world, you'd be right - but we don't live in an ideal world.

The last comment was uncalled for and rather stupid. I thought this was
supposed to be a discussion.

But the reason nobody (or almost nobody) objects to such orthodox jews is
because there are so few of them, and they make no attempt to force the rest of
us to dress and believe as they do. Just imagine what would happen if they
would organize terrorist attacks on the rest of the population because of the
mainstream population's "immorality" and a perceived sense of "persecution".

And once they left the community - or even inside the community, but in
contacts with the outside world, they spoke and speak English. It was either
that or nothing.
