======================
Hello Mike,

LL>> During the past 60 years, presidents have declared nearly 2,000
LL>> major disasters in the US. The top 10 states are responsible for
LL>> nearly a third of the total. When a disaster strikes an area,
LL>> everybody helps out. Including those who are outside of the area
LL>> affected. That means the entire country helps those in need. Here
LL>> is a list of the top 10 states, and the number of disaster
 LL>> declarations made since 1953 - 1. Texas, 88 2. California, 79 3.
 LL>> Oklahoma, 75 4. New York, 68 5. Florida, 67 6. Louisiana, 60 7.
 LL>> Alabama, 58 8. Arkansas, 58 9. Kentucky, 56 10. Missouri, 55
 LL>> Source: FEMA

MM> Lots of states that generally vote conservative on that list.

I no longer look at things as `liberal' or `conservative'. Such
labels really are meaningless, when one thinks it out. A better
way to look at things is `pro-democratic' or `anti-democratic'.
Not so much in terms of absolutes, but more like gradations. If
something can be clearly demonstrated as being `pro-democratic'
then I am all for it. If something can be clearly demonstrated
as being `anti-democratic' then I am against it. Doesn't really
matter to me so much about party affiliation or stated ideology.

When disaster strikes, people suffer. No matter who they are.
As a community, everybody in the community should help those in
need. A community limiting itself to helping only those who
need no help is not a community at all. I don't know what you
call it. But it is not a community.

If all the Mormons in Salt Lake City lost their homes due
to an earthquake (or some other disaster, whether it be natural
or manmade), everybody in the entire country should help. Not
just Mormons, the people in Salt Lake City, or people in the
state of Utah.

Whatever their political beliefs might be are irrelevant.

MM> Those same conservatives complain that the government spends too much
money,
MM> and will vote against helping other states with federal aid. When it
comes
MM> to their state though... Oh boy, let the money flow!

If you want to make money, you have to spend money. Preferably
other people's money. That is the way things work, and have always
worked. However, today's conservatives have been trying to con the
world into believing austerity is the answer. While at the same
time being the biggest spenders in the known universe.

MM> I really like living where I do. We have the occasional f1 or f2 tornado,
MM> and we're well equipped to deal with cold, ice and heavy snow. We're
MM> 800ft above sea level and don't experience much in the way of flooding,
MM> even with nearby rivers. The nearest fault line that can produce a
damaging
MM> earthquake is 600 miles away. Wisconsin may be boring to some people,
but
MM> you really can't find a safer place when it comes to major natural
MM> disasters. Heck, if Yellowstone were to explode tomorrow I would
probably
MM> not know if I didn't read the newspaper.

Be prepared for 30,000+ wild and crazy LSU Tiger fans invading
Green Bay this Saturday for the game between LSU and Wisconsin.
It will be a game for the ages, and everybody is excited. The
those not able to get a ticket, a giant tv screen will be placed
outside the stadium in the parking lot so that everybody can
watch the game live while eating their fill and drinking all the
beer they want.

If you have never experience tailgating at a college football
game, this is your chance of a lifetime. LSU fans are great at
this, and love to share their food with all. Trust me when I
tell you, there will be plenty of boiled crawfish to go around.
And lots more food than anybody can handle.
