A true story: my sister's husband, at their wedding, took her to be his
"awful wedded wife"! *LOL* (I was there!)

And I think the Reverend in question was the famous Anglican Reverend
Spooner, who oft said things like the following:

 The one you squeeze to get cider, the other you get 'side 'er to squeeze.
