Hey Dan!

Maybe you'll find some of the following useful to you. Personally I'd give
irex the heave-ho but obviously I am too hardcore for fido-think sysops. ;-)

First off I moved the zipfile to my latest build on ttylinux (new generation
for usb booting) since my main default boot/root refuses to handle zipfiles
whatsoever. I then chrooted to it so that any corruption will be contained
there. I plan to rebuild the whole shebang later anyhow so if it gets
corrupted it won't matter.

root@xena:~/temp# chmod 755 REXL

root@xena:~/temp# ldd REXL
        not a dynamic executable

root@xena:~/temp# ./REXL -?
Couldn't open Rex's language file! (rex.dat) Rex ne pouvait pas trouver son

root@xena:~/temp# mv REX.DAT rex.dat

root@xena:~/temp# ./REXL -?

Use rexl for normal mode, rexls to connect to the net through a SOCKS4 server.

For more help on any one commandline argument, do rexl <command> -?
eg. rexl -send -? will give help on the send argument.

root@xena:~/temp# ./REXL -send -?
-send: Directs Rex to send waiting mail for the nodes you
select. If no nodes are selected, mail for ALL nodes
   is sent.
Select nodes by specifying keywords or addresses after
   -send. Keywords available are:
directory: all nodes who receive files in a directory
mail: all nodes who receive files by mail
ftp: all nodes who receive files by FTP
binkp: all nodes who receive files by BinkP transfers
e<address ID>: all nodes who receive mail from that
                      email address
news: all newsgroup gateways with waiting messages
g<newsgroup>: all newsgroups matching the wildcard given
                      with waiting messages
s<server ID>: all newsgroups gated through the news server
                      with the given ID
anonymous: anyone who is not listed in the node manager
transx: if you've directed Rex to send your TransX
mail for you, this will send any pending TransX
messages (if mail is selected, this is
                    automatically selected as well)

eg. rex -send ftp mail 1:342/806 x1:111/*
Sends mail to all nodes who receive files via FTP or mail,
and to the node whose address is 1:342/806. Also sends
any TransX mail waiting. Mail for nodes in net 1:111/*
  is not sent.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of the above I editted out since they were just errors due to extremely
poor terminal handling by REXL. Also all the text files would require
filtering to rid them of the DOS-think but that is a minor alteration.

Beats me if any of it actually could work as the current chroot testing
enviroment lacks networking as it is undesirable at the moment. I was planning
to use this as a troubleshooting thingy booting off usb so turning on networks
automagically would be a bad idea since I'd have to disable them anyhow to test
network devices via ethtool.

Bottomline is that it looks like it could work but given the extremely crippled
terminal handling and the lack of source code for it makes it somethiung to be
avaoided like the plague in a true blue GNU/Linux system. Right?

Life is good,
Maurice
