PQ>Hi! Ed,
Hi Paul,

PQ> EV> I suppose U'u uses a Print Spooler too?

PQ>Yep. Though printing from U'u is a weird science. My workaround evolved to
PQ>printing to my wife's printer attached to her PC, via USB. To re-state her

th

PQ>be converted to a PDF doc. Those jobs end up in an outbound spool in one of
PQ>the server's LAN shares. :)

I've been using DoPDF a lot since You told me about it.
I set it to make Small files of things I want to keep.

PQ> EV> I didn't try to print anything yesterday when I was using U'u 7.04 .

PQ>That's what I like to hear. ;-)

I know that I won't ever become a paperless user.

To help my neighbor I printed several screen shots of how to get a
Yahoo! email account, step by step.

When I was in Grade School (1-6) and through Junior High School (7-9),
at least twice in a school year the kids would be asked to go door to
door asking for old newspapers to take to the school so the school could
sell the used paper.

I sorta laughed when the "BUY" Recyled Paper program started up in the
USA. because it was advertised as something new to start doing.

My reason for wanting to laugh at the program was because around 1952
when I still was in Grade School I was walking down a street that was
just one street parallel to the main downtown business district, and I
saw some big signs in a store window and that described how Newspaper
was manufactured.

IIRC, Wood Chips, Rags and "Used Newspaper" were placed in a acid bath,
and later the 'slush' was made into new newspaper.

So as a little kid I knew paper had always had 'OLD' paper in it.
Twasn't nuttin new to me. ;-)

PQ> PQ>>Unzip. Enter that at a terminal prompt and you get a screenful of
PQ> PQ>> help.
PQ> EV> Thanks again. that is the same way PKZIP and PKUNZIP works too.
PQ> EV> And a lot of times I need help.

PQ>Yeah, it turns out to be Zip & Unzip without the PK. That's fine if you
know
PQ>what you're looking for; I appreciate your 'poking around in the dark' as
I'v
PQ>done the same in the past.

OK thanks, I'll look at ZIP and UNZIP in U'u 7.04 in the Terminal to see
if similar option letters are used as Phil Katz Zip uses.

Does U'u have a GUI Extract program as Windows XP does?

PQ> EV> I used to use the -& option when I wanted to ZIP (a) file(s) larger
PQ> EV> than 1.44MB on to several floppy disks when I was using the 486 box.
PQ> EV> ;-)

PQ>Although I use archives in Linux scripts I don't ordinarily use them at a
PQ>terminal prompt. You may recall that I'm somewhat addicted to using
PQ>"Commander"-style GUI tools? I use the "Tux Commander"(TC) all the time, in
PQ>all our linux systems. It's the first util that I download from the U'u
PQ>"Software Centre" in a new install.

I forgot about that Paul, thanks for reminding me.
I have used Free Commander a bit a couple months ago.
TC is still on my desktop but I don't think I've used it enought for it
to start giving me NAG SCREENS.

PQ>With TC, I just double-click on a ZIP and it opens like a directory. If it
PQ>contains further ZIPs or directories, I just double-click on them to
navigate
PQ>deeper. From there, I can view text files in the archive or copy files out,
PQ>etc. Working with ZIPped (& other types of) archives is a piece of the
PQ>proverbial, using TC.

Oh OK, so just forget about answering my question above about extracting
files from the ZIP files in a GUI, You've already answered it.

PQ> EV> I followed the instructions at Yahoo.com help page to set T'bird (TB)
PQ> EV> up and did't have any trouble doing it at all.

PQ>Neat.

PQ> EV> I haven't been invited to my neighbors computer room so I can't be of
PQ> EV> much help just trying to talk about something that I don't know
PQ> EV> about.

PQ>I prefer to 'play dumb' in such situations too, like you.

In my case there isn't any "play" part, I don't know Linux well enough
to install a Package. But I will.

PQ> EV> I don't know if he was trying to get any UUCP stuff or not.
PQ> EV> UUCP I think means UseNet??? I thought he was asking me about using
PQ> EV> TB for email not UseNet.

PQ>Yes, though it used to be used for both. Back in the old days UUCP was used
PQ>for a lot of things, originally using analogue modems. Pretty much like
PQ>Fidonet.

I haven't been on UseNet but in my old days I started out with a 300
baud modem that connected to the telephone handset cord.
I was just one step away from using a Audio coupled modem then.

Although at work before my section were allowed to use a desktop pc,
we used a Texas Instrument terminal the had the CUPS to put the phone
handset in. And it was replaced by a DEC TERMINAL that had a CUP style
modem too.

At home I was at least one leap ahead of the technology they supplied my
section.

PQ> EV> I tried once using Outlook Express to get FIDO messages from a
PQ> EV> hub2000.darktech address but didn't care for it so went back to using
PQ> EV> SLMR and .QWK packets.
PQ> EV> I never thought about trying FIDO messages on TB, I just use it for
PQ> EV> email.

PQ>That's about the same as I do though, as you may recall, I have three NNTP
PQ>servers to pick (mail) from as well. Just like you, I've gravitated to
PQ>something I'm more comfortable with than anything else.

Getting QWK mail from one BBS suits me right now.

Saturday I made a new vBox for U'u 7.04, 512MB RAM, 8GB FIXED HD because
I saw 8000MB was suggested on the HD setup screen, and I set the CD to
the U'u7.04.iso file I saved on the computer HD long ago.

I had a bit of a problem and while I researching the problem I clicked
on the Existing HD button and saw the 3 earlier HD settings were in the
chart so I deleted them.
