Hey James!

Yeah. Boon still on?

 JB> Oh... I don't? <G> I'm still alive, so I'm doin' something right.

Or just plain ol' lucky like the rest of us.

JB> |-P <-- (Directed at the na-sayers.) It sure is an interesting study

JB> should be more info here soon.

What do you need in the meantime?

JB> As in a 'puter to NTSC/PAL? Mine does that, but it does it with a
JB> dongle. You were talking about strapping a tuners output into the MB,
 JB> maybe?

Right. I have a pci one at the moment but was thinking about a usb one I
borrowed to the neighbour. The pci one works really good on the smp but I
haven't done much with it other then to watch TV. Got it working on the
console with framebuffer graphics. Look ma! No GUI!!! :-)

JB> If you *are* talking about the output going to a television set, no.

Not yet. I don't have a TV. What for? I hardly watch TV other then news and
the Simpsons. What else is there?

JB> I only did that with a 640x480 486, and only to zoom it up from the
JB> 9" B+W monitor when I was parked in front of a television.

Sounds good. Doesn't take much does it? Capture is different though and
requires a bit more punch then that. Not that I do any of that myself but
perhaps I'll try that when I get a better handle on smp or get the usb working
on the new C3 jobber. Just for fun.

JB> Ditto. One runs Windows w/a capture card, and the other is on the
JB> Linux. I would upgrade the Linux machine, but doubt I would actively
JB> search for a faster CPU for the Windows box.

A fast/good cpu is a terrible thing to waste on :::shudder::: Windows. My skin
is crawling just thinking about it.

JB> The MB here will work with a (I'd have to check to be sure.) 800 or
JB> 900 MHz VIA, but a Medoceeno (Ta HECK if I can remember those code
JB> names.) of only 7(something) hundred M would work. Nothing to do with
JB> the speed of the machine with a given MHz CPU, but what the MB would
 JB> accept.

Often is is simply the fsb and the multiplier, but sometimes the voltage can
play a factor. You might be able to underclock a faster cpu then the board
supposedly can handle. We did that with socket 7 boards and k6-2's.

Life is good,
Maurice
