I've seen that but like I've said it won't work here without alteration.  I
like the idea, have seen before Knoppix, and learned how to create bootable CDs
and now DVDs for what I need them for.

For sure.  Same with any other OS if the tasks are demanding a power user.  The
point is that Linux can if needed whereas the more user friendly ones often
fail when it comes to hardcore computing without altering their code. which in
certain cases is a BIG no-no.  They can keep it.

I have a bunch like that.  The neighbour and I are talking about building a
cluster out of them.  We have this huge HP server case where at least a half
dozen motherboards will easily fit into with room to spare.

Same here.  I do have some source and libs that could be used towards that end
but am not much inclined to do anything about it.

Yep.  That is a common problem.  Also just some maintenence will straighten HDs
out every once and awhile.  I've cleaned up drives for people which is why
hotswapping ide's is an important function for my main machine.  That makes
things simpler and better all the way around.
