Hey James!

I am not sure about that. Given where a serious tsunami would be most likely
to originate from in this part of the world, then there just might be enough
real estate between here and there to damp it out but I am not betting the farm
on it. For sure there aren't any advance warning systems here to ensure I
could get out of the way of one. Also high enough solid ground is a tad far so
it might not be doable even with advanced warning.

Bottomline is that 'you pays your money and takes your chances'.

I'd ditch the amber screen for a decent monochrome vga monitor instead but the
basic idea you state above is definetly doable and I believe desirable. Why a
greenhouse? Are you thinking contol system? If so then I think serial based
contols are the way to go and then 'setserial' would definetly be a good thing
as part and parcel of the rootfs. As for the display, then I'd be thinking
along the lines of ditching a monitor and going with something more suitable to
a greenhouse enviroment and waterproofing would be high up on my agenda. I've
seen lcd's that could be wired into serial and that might be a better idea for
this cause (cheap too). For input one of those rubberized keyboard pads would
be attractive as they are waterproof as well as being chemicalproof. Those are
a tad expensive and difficult to come by though.

Yeah. Good for them.

Right. They can keep those.

Yeah. It isn't easy but it is worthwhile as long as you are gaining knowledge
from it. Once over the hump I believe you'll understand the beauty of it and
come to the realization that it isn't all that hard. :-)

JB> <LOL> Why does that not surprise me? The AGP card in the

Sorry about that chief.

 JB> Moving the

Yeah I must admit I don't care much for the breakout box. I honestly thought
it would be an improvement but have seen that it really isn't.

That isn't saying much. Can we pick a better benchmark? ;-)

Right. Those days are gone. Sigh.

Not really, or at least I don't see it that way. I had access to the internet
before that time and saw development going on that didn't impress me or at
least didn't think was attractive to me as a computer user. httpd for example.
I am still using ftpd as my basic networking tool all these years and years
later. I have yet to find anything better.

JB> Well, I'm on it *now,* so I guess that's all that counts.

Enjoy! Welcome to the 'club'.

Life is good,
Maurice
