Hey James!

Never heard of it.

Okay. I've heard of D-Link so that is a start. I'll take the liberty of
seeing what I can find out about it.

JB> drive. He loosened it up enough, so I don't have to do the floppy
 JB> shuffle! Just

Right on! As far as I know XP doesn't have any usb issues. I still wouldn't
use it to format but if preformatted then there shouldn't be any issues between
XP and Linux as far as it working for both. Sounds to me like you're on your
way. That floppy idea must have been an extremely painful experience for you.
I feel your pain.

JB> Checking my assumptions, you connect nothing to the WAN port, which
 JB> is the only
JB> one to access that setup page, no? You don't run factory defaults?

No the setup page on the SMC one here was only accessable via one of the four
regular ports and could be configured to setup from wherever afterwards. A
power outage ended up screwing the whole thing up and now we can't access it
from anywhere due to a faulty password for some strange reason. It still works
though. The WAN port (only one) is where you'd normally hook up the cable or
dsl line and it gets it's ip address from there. We have nothing hooked up to
that since there is no way to effectively control it no matter what the stupid
setup page said to the contrary. Anyhow we're not using it that way so it
isn't an issue to us. I wouldn't either as I don't trust that piece of crap
other then to do the wireless part. Even that part is debatable but it doesn't
matter since it seems to work okay as long as it doesn't have access to
anything else, which it doesn't.

MK>> Sounds great! We'll see you when you get here.

JB> I might have to sell the house, to pay for the gas.

True. It isn't quite as bad as it was a few months back but still expensive
for sure. Mind you isn't it cheaper there? Usually is.

Sounds like a plan.

 JB> Toss me an e-mail.

I don't think I have your address. Try netmailing me again to the above
address and/or try dropping the point part and Janis will probably forward it
to me. I think she still likes me. Shhhhhhh.

JB> Huh... Wha? We could take the topic to home'n garden... (Or whatever
 JB> it's
 JB> called.)

Is it still alive? It is winter also so I don't know if there would be much
traffic there.

We eventually get around to it. Yeah it is a good situation we have going. I
talked to him about mencoder and the win-tv card the other day and he told me
he is still working on the p4 board he has allocated towards that end and was
just finishing a custom Linux install he was working on. One step at a time.

Life is good,
Maurice
