hadn't thought about that, but yes :)

MK> Also I try to avoid rebate offers. I find that extremely
 MK> annoying.
soon taking the rebate coupon will be compulsory. it'll break down when they
try to make people watch the fifteen minute multimedia presentation telling
them exactly what they can do with it, then be replaced by the cheaper prebate
system, where you pay the old post-rebate price but then have to mail the
remainder of the regular price to the company or their representatives within
four to six weeks. that'll break down when companies demand to be paid interest
and sales taxes on it.

they may resist static electricity a bit better. the usenet electronics
conference here at the bbs has had a message or two about expensive parts lost
in testing, but i'm not sure if it was static discharge. i have read there have
been some reserch programs that've led to improved protection. part of the
trick may be to do it with no or small energy loss.

[ ac and dc product memory typology ]

Nice to know, thank you.

        [ fsb bandwidth (latency?) ]
MK> That too. The a64's on the am2 sockets are all 2000MHz fsb
MK> (semprons are 1600). I think that is the same for the S939's
MK> a64's so I am not sure there is an advantage there. Also the
MK> thickness of the core apparently has some advantage as to
MK> performance. I believe all the S940 opterons are 1000MHz fsb.
athlon was the first cpu with 'thick' core features, maybe, from a 2005
scientific american article on ic trends that had a note about it and a sem(?)
photo of that part of an athlon.

MK> From what I see in specs there is no difference between the 2800+
MK> and the 3000+ semprons other then price. Right now just 64-bit is
MK> what the experiment is rather then speed so this isn't an issue
MK> at the moment. I am just looking to keep it cheap. Beats me if
MK> anything else matters at the moment.
what even might matter eludes me regularly, haha

KP> [gcc v3.4 and later] profiling doesn't make it worse afaik :)

 MK> We'll find out later.
new versions add profiling control functions i believe. earlier tests showed
some 5-7% fastening.

KP> looks like you got the board from reading ahead.

MK> Yep. Still waiting for the cpu and the second stick of ram.
MK> Maybe today but I am guessing Monday at the soonest.
power supply, case, other peripherals, and software ?

[ mail priority headers ]
MK>> Nope. Still picking away at it. Do you mean email of the fido
 MK>> stuff?
KP> no, internet. did fido ever support that?

MK> A few hubs do ... or did. My two points are both ftp based.
noted
MK> 1:140/13.1 is off the same ftp server as ttylinux/arena but I
MK> have another one pointing from NYS (filegate.net). I prefer
ftp://filegate.net works from the other bbs on wildcat! winserver. some ftp
sites require 'active mode' support, symbolic link handling, reverse domain
name resolution, and other features afaik..

MK> ftp as it is the best and I use it on a day to day basis for
MK> other things. Personally I think it is the way to go all
 MK> things considered/
uucp was common before ftp i believe.

        [ mail-priority ]
KP> i was thinking maybe the ftp by mail servers might have used it to
 KP> some gain.

MK> I would agree except I have yet to run across a suitable email
MK> server. email doesn't matter much to me so I don't worry about it
MK> especially these days. Too much spam.

KP> probably an adaptor for pci-e to pci/-64 should be feasible, and
KP> might be a good thing, dunno.

MK> I doubt it. I am not worried about it. We'll see what happens but
MK> I doubt pci-e will get any further then agp did. The only ones who
MK> seem excighted about it are gamers and they are too fickle to ever
MK> support anything for very long. Obviously more money then brains.
 MK> ;-)
lighten up dude ;)
