Perhaps.  All I know is that the dealer in town (trustworthy) uses them and
reported he sees quite a bit of bad ram coming through of one particular brand
usually from one particular store (national chain) that buys it in bulk at a
cheap price.  It didn't surprise me any.  Anyhow the cost to me was negligable
all things considered and I figure memory was an important factor, as well as
making sure it would work with other motherboard brands and sockets, such as
pga775 etc.

Turns out the online specs were wrong.  The 2800+ has a 128k l2 cache while the
3000+ has a 256k cache.  That is the difference.  Anyhow the 3000+ was shipped
out late Thursday and didn't make it here on Friday so I'll have to wait until
next week.  Oh well.

I'll check later.  First I need to get it booting.

yep.  Nothing fancy but reliable.  As for the software I already built it but
won't know if it works until the cpu arrives.  This will be the first test of
the 64-bit crosscompiler on the dual 933 p3 system.  Given that is a 32-bit
system I cannot chroot or boot into it but it looks okay from this angle. 
We'll soon see.

I am just using vsftpd here and haven't done anything too fancy with it.  Seems
to work great with a wide variety of ftp clients.

Could be.  All I know for sure is that ftp has been the mainstay with me since
around 1990-ish.  I haven't seen any reason to change.

Heh, heh.  Maybe.  I still doubt it'll (pci-e) go anywhere no matter what I
have to say about it good or bad.
