Hey James!

That I wouldn't know. I haven't bothered with a printer since the laser one
migrated to Texas almost a decade ago. I never did like ink jet printers so it
never was an issue to me personally.

JB> Dell, to their credit has a FTP port, but I didn't see a quick-link
 JB> directory,

Cool. Nice to see at least one company still appreciates the good stuff.

JB> I hear that. The best support I have seen, is some schmuck in a

If it works with Debian it should work better with Slackware. :-)

JB> I've only opened dad's so far. Sure took some examination to open the

Heh, heh. Clamshell sums it up nicely. I like their server boxes the best.
Same with older HP's. I haven't seen a new one yet beyond the p3 based ones.

 MK>> Adaptec?

JB> So far as I've seen. One reported a "Dell" something or another, but

You will need to build the appropriate one into the kernel. I have yet to see
anyone get that right but it is doable. I forget offhand which chipset but
I'll bet it is exactly the same as the smp gateway board Russell Tiedt has.
Are you listening Russell? Care to shed light on this?

MK>> Those are 133MHz fsb. Are the s370's or
 MK>> slot1's?

JB> Slots, so far as I've seen.

Those are a tad harder to come by these days. It is doable though or at least
the last time I went looking. Probably will have greater success looking for
933's but I have run across a few 1G's in the past.

 JB> Slot 1 + 370 only went to 133MHz in the bus?

As far as I know. Some p3's are 100fsb but I am sure 733's are 133fsb. I
think the 100fsb's went as high as 800MHz and 133fsb went as low as 667MHz.

JB> Like the Dell cases, you KNOW *some* team of engineers had their way
 JB> with them.
JB> Mine are mostly the ones pre-management shuffle, so they sold at a
 JB> minimum of
JB> mark-up, and they *still* were priced out of reach.

For sure. I can find them cheap these days though (servers). Heck I ran
across a quad p3 xeon IBM rackmount with pci hotplugging for $250 last year in
Victoria. Unreal.

JB> Ditto. There's a LOT of onboard NICs, with one containing *two*
 JB> onboard.
JB> ...Make a nice firewall, if I had something to protect it from.

Right. That is the same situation here although the main connected guy (3
intel pro ethernet chips) has iptables running on it. That is the only one
though.

MK>> Really? I thought plants were more into
 MK>> classical music.

JB> Likely, that's all they had in the University lab at the time. I
 JB> think the Myth
JB> Busters (Someone on Discovery anyway.)

I like those guys. Did they blow everything up later?

 JB> Turns out,
JB> they were only responding to the vibes. The message, not the medium.
 JB> (-|

Hm. Never saw that episode.

Life is good,
Maurice
