I don't think it was OS/2 that was directly responsible for the problem but
only linux could successfully boot and have the full 2 gigs at it's disposal. 
In the case of OS/2, the bootloader - again I don't recall the name - refused
to boot anything since the bios and the mbr didn't agree and couldn't agree.  I
could get DOS to boot but was limited to the 512M the bios thought there was
and was all that could deal with.  The OS/2 bootloader couldn't be suckered in
or just ignore the bios once the drive was initialized.  I tried.

Okay.  In my case it was primarily a bios issue so a simular strategy wouldn't
have worked.  That particular machine died many, many years ago and the
harddrive was inherited by someone in need at the time.  I think it went on a
P1 with win98 and there was absolutely no issues with it.  Beats me if it is
still running but I have doubts.

The only dfsee I have ever heard of was a directfb application for grphical
viewing for the linux framebuffer.  I somehow think you are talking about
something totally different.  As for size for a half decent linux system I
doubt you would need or use more then 3-5G even if you went hogwild installing.
 As for a /home for yourself that is up to you what you use in terms of
archives and files.  Depends on what you do with your system.

I'd go with 5G for the main system / and possible a few gigs for /home.  Again,
it depends on how you plan to use it and what for.  Lots of iso's may need more
space but they could be on a shared partition (go with fat32) so that all your
OS's can see and mount it.
