Hey Ross!

I don't. I assume he means what he says and that there is probably a good
reason for it. I also assume the same for you and everyone else for that
matter. Don't you?

RC> So what, he shares your hate of a GUI, he also fishes his computer
RC> equipment out of the garbage, its not like he can afford computers
RC> that have the horsepower to do a gui.

Mine can but prefer not to. My machines seem to prefer using the horsepower
for things that matter. GUI's are for people who don't care about their
equipment or just use them to unknowingly spread their viruses, worms,
pirateware, spam and other questionable material. The web is full of those
types.

RC> So how do the other posters really know when either of you are being
RC> lucid, I mean no offense in the construct of the question but how
RC> does a mad man know he is insane?

I doubt they could tell. Does it make a difference?

RC> No what I said is the dealers you talk about will simply not point
RC> out the fact that rebates would exist in their signage or ads.

Again, the only reason I brought it up was what I heard on the news about it
and what they claimed as to successful transactions. I've never participated
in the rebate thingy and have no regrets about it. Should I? From my
understanding and experience I appear to have made the right choice.

RC> Wayne related to the fact that his Western Digital HDD had a rebate
RC> that he didnt submit for, was that hdd an inferior drive?

That I cannot say. I don't have any of their drives.

RC> Sandisk, a well known and very reputable manufacturer of flash card
RC> memory and USB flashdrives offers rebates on their products, I'd
RC> hardly call their products inferior.

Better then most but certainly not the best. Mind you they did buy out the
best not too long ago so maybe we'll either see an improvement there or they
will totally screw up the best, which can and does happen.

RC> Hewlett Packard, routinely offers rebates on their products,

Too much crap coming out of there although every now and then they put out some
good stuff. Their EISA network cards really sucked slough water in comparison
to other's ISA network cards. Also their original pci controller chips were
nothing to write home to mother about. Also, also the need for a stinkin'
lousy floppy to get into their bios was a really lame idea I thought. Also,
also, also, buying out Compaq made them look bad and prompted me to wonder
about future quality when that happened. Haven't owned a HP since those days
so I don't know if my instinct about that was on target.

RC> including printers and scanners, I'd hardly call them inferior.

I have none of that. I thought all this was supposed to lead to a paperless
society? What happened to that concept?

RC> Although jury could be out on their desktop and laptop computers,
RC> depending on who you ask.

I've seen much of that being recycled lately so ...

RC> Maxtor, Seagate, Lacie also, I'd hardly call their products inferior.

I currently have one Maxtor and three Seagates working. So far so good.

RC> Motorola, a premier name in radios and cellphones offers rebates on
RC> their products, again, not inferior.

I used to have a external Motorola serial modem. That one was alright. No
rebate on that one and it has long been retired.

RC> Kodak, Nikon, Vivitar, Canon and Olympus routinely offer rebates on
RC> their digital cameras, I'd hardly call them inferior.

I wouldn't know.

RC> A rebate doesnt mean inferior products, I have debunked you.

I'll have another looksee when the neighbour makes another trip out to the
dump. Last trip it was a whole mess of ink jet printers, mostly Canons from
what I noticed. I haven't used a printer in over a decade now but after seeing
that load I thought a good lazer printer would be my choice if I am ever in
need.

RC> In your case, just save your stamps.

You betcha! Good advice methinks.

Life is good,
Maurice
