Many colored journalists are expected to be racist journalists.  
They just cannot look upon "Whitey" objectively.

 RJ> Center ballroom would resonate well beyond its walls. Actually, they -
 RJ> like Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry, who addressed the

 RJ> That is why it was surprising, disconcerting and even a little
 RJ> frightening to listen to his opening remarks, punctuated by a strange
 RJ> syntax and mysterious logic.

 RJ> teaching children how to read. When responding to a question posed by a
 RJ> Native American journalist on what he thought about the sovereignty of
 RJ> the Indian tribes in the U.S., Bush could only respond with something
 RJ> like "sovereignty is well ... sovereignty, and if you have sovereignty
 RJ> you are sovereign." Say what? 

He was probably trying to avoid embarrassing the Indian reporter.  
After all, the question was *obviously* loaded ...

 RJ> Conversely, Kerry, who visited Unity the day before, seemed to benefit
 RJ> from his appearance. After the requisite couple of lines about his
 RJ> support for diversity in the newsroom (Bush did the same thing), he
 RJ> proceeded to deliver introductory remarks that made him look
 RJ> self-assured and knowledgeable on the issues. He even looked
 RJ> comfortable in front of such a difficult crowd.

"Difficult" crowd??!   Sheeeeeeeesh!  They were blacks who are 
knee-jerk Democrats.  Why *shouldn't* they welcome Kerry?  If 
they hadn't it would be like a Knights of Columbus convention 
which booed the Pope.

 RJ> presidency after his appearance. That morning, declaring that health
 RJ> care was everybody's right, the Massachusetts senator promised to send

Wow!  This is *objective* reporting??  ... heh heh heh ... note 
the loaded terms "weak performance" and "seemed to h ave found a 
new appreciation for Kerry's" ... Sheeeeeeeeesh!
 
 RJ> He also said that, in recognition of the fact that the U.S. is "and
 RJ> always has been" a nation of immigrants, he would submit an immigration
 RJ> reform bill within the first 100 days of his term that would stress
 RJ> family reunification and provide avenues for legalization.

I'll just *bet* he will ... Kerry talks but seldom gives any 
details as to what he will do.

 RJ> But nothing was better received by the audience than his promise that
 RJ> - opposite to what happened in 2000 when many black voters were
 RJ> deprived of their right to vote - in November he would make sure that
 RJ> all of them were counted. 

Another lie as later studies showed black voters were *not* 
disenfranchised ... unless they were in the armed forces and sent 
absentee ballots.  In that case the Gore crew did its best to 
cancel their votes.

 RJ> "The harsh fact now is that in the last election, more than 1 million
 RJ> African-Americans were disenfranchised in one of the most tainted
 RJ> elections in history," Kerry said. "We have to see to it in November
 RJ> that every vote counts and every vote is counted."

Kerry apparently doesn't know of the studies (above).  I wonder 
in which *other* areas he's out-of-date.

 RJ> Surprisingly - and a little embarrassingly - many in the audience, in
 RJ> behavior little suited for professional journalists, chose to turn
 RJ> Kerry's visit into a love fest, even rewarding him with a standing
 RJ> ovation. 

See above re Knights of Columbus and Pope ... [sigh] ...

 RJ> Yet in this particular Bush-Kerry match, the unanimous decision has to
 RJ> go to the challenger, who looked even more presidential after Bush's
 RJ> bumbling performance the next day.

Kindly 'scuse my snicker ... [snicker] ... thank you ...

 RJ> These are difficult and dangerous times, though, and many things can
 RJ> happen in the next couple of months. No one can really predict who is
 RJ> going to sit in the Oval Office come January 2005.

*I* can.  His name will be George W. Bush.
