If the Linux version is anything like the Windows one, I'll probably
pass on it.  As I said to August, the interface for Audacity was too
busy and confusing to me.  I may try it again at some later time but
for now I uninstalled it along with Lame.

The small easy to use MP3 splitter program I downloaded is all I need
for the present.
