====================================================================
Hi Ruth,

-> tried to avoid getting that way for health reasons. We're going on more
-> of a fruit & vegetable push, as well as healthier ways of cooking since
-> doing school work isn't condusive to losing weight.

 RH> Too true. Desk jobs in general aren't.

In my case, love seat. I do 99.99% of my computer work off of my little
EeePC. Steve got me a lap desk last month (I'd been using a clip board
as a computer "desk") which gives a bit, but not a whole lot more room.
I've got books and papers on the ottoman and one end table. But, I do
get up and move around--gives me a bit of exercise. Have to keep up
with laundry, cooking, clean up, etc so I'm not studying all the time.

-> RH> Got any wallpaper that needs to go up?
-
> No, and we won't be putting any up in this place. A lot of the lower
-> wall space is covered with furniture, bookshelves, etc and the upper
-> space is too broken up (visually) for it. Besides, it's a rental and we
-> don't want the hassles of removing it in a few years.

 RH> Oh well. It was a thought. Navajo white it is for the duration.

Yes, but with areas of color. In the kitchen I've got a series of
German dish towels on one wall (using Command strip hooks, casings on
the towels and a thin slat on the hooks) printed with herbs, spices and
useage. On another wall in the kitchen I've got a similar set I got in
England. We've got various things hung in the different rooms so we
don't see all white.

-> RH> I'll bet Carole has some stories.

-> I think she's having more problems with it than we are. Some people
-> have a lot of trouble, some have none and others have varying amounts of
-> problems in between the none and a lot. Still, it's good to have
-> available.

 RH> That's the way I heard it too. Then again Carole has problems that
 RH> don't stem from something concrete, like injuries. You have x-rays to
 RH> point to if they give you a hard time. She had to fight them to get
 RH> the scans done.

Yes, and I hope things are smoothing out in that regard for her. I
don't have VA benefits but have some good civilian doctors.

-> -> Today was decent enough that I grabbed a lined windbreaker over a
-> -> sweatshirt. Steve had on a jeans jacket over a sweater & long
 RH> sleeved
-> -> tee shirt. Supposed to be warmer tonorrow.

 RH> I just wore a jacket over a sweatshirt yesterday too; it was nearly 50
 RH> and way too warm for a real coat.

I grabbed my lined trench coat before going to church yesterday. Didn't
need it in mid day but by evening, the 2nd round of rain was coming thru
cooling temps down to the low 50s.

-> didn't have the sweater layer he did yesterday. Rain is supposed to
-> come in tonight, until Monday. Picked up some honey, sorgum syrup and
-> goat cheese spreads today.

 RH> Ooooh, yummy. Honey plus goat cheese and served warm... it's a good
 RH> thing I'm not around!

Yep! I wanted to get some beef soup bones but both places were sold
out. Guess I'll have to try next month.

-> Just tuning out the world at large to concentrate more on the world
-> around them.

 RH> I try to pay attention to both, but then my Dad did the same thing.

All depends on your upbringing and your interest in the world around
you.

-> RH> I use canvas or something fairly heavy if I can get it. The muslin
->  RH> feels too flimsy.  I single-stitch fleece since it doesn't ravel.

-> OK, I understand. Most of the people who have used my rice bags have
-> been happy with the way I make them. I've used a heavier weight muslin,
-> sometimes a couple of layers or a heavier fabric. Not too heavy since I
-> make a heavier cover, usually a towel or something of that sort.

 RH> Toweling works. I use the fleece because it's handy and people like
 RH> it. The toweling is probably a lot more heat-resistant though. The
 RH> cashmere can feel a lot better next to a tender spot, provided the
 RH> user isn't
 RH> allergic to it. I actually broke down and bought a commercial one the
 RH> other day; it's being sent to the Dominican to a missions group down
 RH> there. The rice might attract bugs or critters, while a synthetic
 RH> won't. On the upside, it was half price.

Half price helps. As long as they have the electricity to run the
microwave to heat the thing.

-> RH> of cardigans, and using the button edge as the closure for the rice
->  RH> bag cover.

-> That works, especially if you can find the old cardigans. Some of them
-> are labled as hand wash only--until they get that first machine wash and
-> get nice and cuddly with the fibres next to it.

 RH> I do sometimes, at the end of the season in thrift stores. I've
 RH> gotten sweaters five for a dollar that way, even the cashmere. Cotton
 RH> cardigans might work too, but not the nubby ones. I generally wash
 RH> the cashmere in hot water and throw them in the dryer to pre-shrink

Most all of my fabric gets the washer/dryer treatment when I bring it
home. Then too, most of what I bring home is cotton type.

-> -> I was petting let the other one know in no uncertain terms that he
 RH> was
-> -> not going to share.

-> RH> You should have adopted both!

-> Couldn't have either one, sigh! Would have cost a bundle in cat food
-> fattening them up.

 RH> Oh well. Couldn't take them back to a rental anyway.

No, not one with a no pets clause in the lease.

-> RH> Ricotta, eggs, vanilla, sweetened condensed milk. Thin pastry
 RH> crust.
-> RH> There were only a few people there, but they just about killed it.

-> Doesn't take many people to devour something good.

 RH> Sure doesn't. One week they killed two bags of chips and some fresh
 RH> salsa and sour cream. And here I was worried about leftovers...hah.

Sounds like a group of mostly young folks who will eat anything set in
front of them.

->  -> RH> I'm not sure it's mindless, but a time waster definitely.

-> I've got enough of those in my life already.

 RH> Eating, sleeping, laundry... the list is endless.

Reading, writing.............oh, sorry, those are for grades, not time
wasters. OTOH, some would consider Fido to be one. It's my link to the
outside world. (G)

-> RH> The library might have it. I found one here, and then bought my
 RH> own.

-> Easiest way to check it out would be to get my own copy and peruse it at
-> my leisure.  I picked up a little Isaeli foods cook book on the trip;
-> Steve posted the hummus recipe from it. There are others in it we will
-> try, and probably post over the next few months.

 RH> I had a vintage 60s Israeli cookbook for years, but never used it. I
 RH> took
