As you seem to have a handle on what your balance should be... now the
trick obviously is to achieve it... ;)

If they were like the below recipe, yes for the oats, and partial credit
for the cinnamon... probably the sugars part wouldn't hurt too much...

Sometimes we never really know what the tipping point ends up being.  Or
where things become nonreversible...

 ML> 1 c  Brown sugar, firmly packed
 ML> 2    Eggs

 ML> 3 c  Quaker Oats, uncooked
 ML> -- (quick or old-fashioned)
 ML> 1 c  Raisins
 ML> Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices into bowl.  Add
 ML> shortening, sugars, eggs and milk.  Beat until smooth, about 2
 ML> minutes.  Stir in oats and raisins.  Chill dough about 1 hour.
 ML> Roll out on lightly floured board or canvas to 1/4-inch thickness.

Pretty standard recipe.  :)  After I'd played with essentially this same
recipe, I ended up with something maybe a little more healthful yet...
but even so, this isn't all that bad for you.  My final version was
nuggets rather than flat cookies... ;)

Oatmeal Nuggets

3/4 c shortening, 1/2 c honey, 1/4 c molasses, 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla
beat together until creamy.

1 1/2 c whole wheat flour, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp
cinnamon, 1/3 tsp nutmeg, 1/3 tsp ginger  mixed together, then added to
creamed mixture and blended well.

3 c uncooked oats, 2 c raisins, optional 1/4 - 3/4 c wheat germ  stirred
into mixture.  Let sit for 15 minutes to 1/2 hour.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated 350
degree F oven, 10 -12 minutes.  Makes about 5 dozen.
