I was thinking that canned or rotisserie chicken was used, maybe chicken
that was cooked and used for something else & this recipe using left
overs.

Not much to melting butter (or heating a bit of oil), adding water (or
broth) and dumping in a bit of stuffing mix.

I'd make my own white sauce, with sauteed mushrooms.  I don't buy the
big red & white brand (or store brand) canned, condensed soups any more
after taking a better look at what's in them.

I'd take the time to do some modifications, as noted above.  Time is the
iffy part but it could be done in stages.  As for the stuffing; I bake
my own bread; it wouldn't be too hard to turn some of it into stuffing.
The inclination to modify is there, in the interest of better eating.

I saw, some time ago, in I think "Cook's Illustrated" magazine, how this
was done using a home made white sauce with mushrooms and home made
fried onions.  I'll have to look it up & post it; it's more the way I
would make this as opposed to the standard recipe.
