Ärende: Nuts!
=============
Hi Janis,

>> A 3/4 lb tub of peanut butter from Wegman's lasts us a week.. maybe..
>> (g) Ron says "minimally" :)

JK> > You have more people dipping into it than are in our household so I
JK> can > see why it goes fast.

JK> And eating it more often as well.. it's a snack, cookie ingredient,
JK> and sometimes dinner sub when chicken is served (G) - really,
JK> everytime I make chicken, that's what my son eats instead of dinner
JK> (sometimes he'll eat the veggies served though). My mom told me years
JK> ago that Grandpa and Uncle Ralph were the the same way... Uncle Ralph
JK> used to hold up the chicken piece to the light to see how much fat was
JK> in that piece. That always cracked me up since I love chicken.

I think I'd crack up too, if I saw it. Sounds like a quirky family trait
that's now into a 3rd generation.

>> > I've never been able to stomach coffee--black, sugar, milk, combo,
>> etc. > OTOH, I used to put both sugar & milk in my tea, then went with
>> just sugar, now it's stevia.

>> That's interesting.. Tea we drink as is, nothing added. When someone

JK> > My folks never drank hot tea

JK> Neither did mine.. Once in a while Mom would buy a container of nestle
JK> Instant Tea mix, but hardly ever.. Dad _loved_ Iced coffee in the

My mom bought the instant tea but it was only for her & Dad to drink,
not us kids. About 3 years ago I threw out the bottle of artificial
sweetener they'd bought in the mid 60s or so that they used in the tea.

JK> summer ... he drank it with a normal amount of milk and sugar. Mom
JK> rarely drank coffee, maybe cup in the morning, and most times she

My parents drink coffee in the morning, just one cup, and black.

JK> didn't finish it. For warm drinks, generally Dad drank coffee.. Mom..
JK> geez, she didn't drink coffee or tea much come to think of it, except
JK> for that small amount of coffee in the morning. I generally drink

Sounds like my MIL, she only has about half a cup of coffee in the
morning.

JK> maybe two or three cups of coffee during the day.. sometimes I'll have
JK> a cup of tea later in the evening.

I'll start the day with hot tea. Sometimes I'll have a 2nd cup in cold
weather, iced tea in hot weather. Usually tho, I avoid caffiene after
about 7 pm.

JK> I guess part of our drinking tea with nothing in it is because we just
JK> like the taste of the tea. Then too, there's the general problem with
JK> "sugary" additions that we both just have no taste for..

I need a bit of sweetening, but have cut back quite a bit from what I
used to put in.

JK> > Teavana (expensive!), loose tea, in the one local mall a few weeks
JK> ago. > Got a couple of teas, only a quarter pound's worth, but
 JK> probably won't > go there again.

JK> We find them at Wegman's generally, in their tea section. I don't
JK> think we've ever been to a tea specialty shop.

We went to a specialty tea shop once when we were in Germany, trying to
(and did) find something close to what we'd bought in Switzerland. It's
been years since we had any of that so we decided to try to find some
again; we think we were successful again. It's a very fruity tasting
tea.

>> > We'll have to see it sometime.

>> Would be good :) It's a large kitchen, but probably not as large as

JK> > We'll be up in NY in October.....................

JK> Yep, maybe you can swing by here.

We can try, have to co-ordinate as time gets closer.

>> unfortuately the wife _really_ liked those slide out drawers in just
>> about every cabinet in the kitchen below the counter level. :) They

JK> > I'd rather have slide outs than the arraingement we've got now.
The JK> lower > cabinets have half shelves for the top so I can't store
as JK> much in them > as I want. Had to deal with them in GA too; if we
ever JK> get our own JK> > place, I'm going to get slide outs.

JK> Believe me, slide-outs make it about impossible to store a whole lot
 JK> :)

I think it depends on what's being stored. Maybe a mix of slide outs and
conventional cabinets would work.

>> are impractible if you have a lot of oddly sized "toys" that need a
>> place to go. If all you bought were canned items and short bottle/tin
>> items, they could work well I suppose.

JK> > I'll customise them to fit our needs.

JK> It's still impractical for me (and belive me she had all sorts of
JK> variations of height, etc.) because you can only fit one large toy on
JK> a slide out.. Maybe over here it's a matter of the number of cabinets,
 JK> I'm not sure :):)

I'd have to play around with a configuration to fit my (as of now,
hypothetical) kitchen.
