I am keeping this particular message.  The chicken might turn into a crow but
at this reply I am not sure which one of us, perhaps both, will be eating crow

Probably.  I haven't looked at tvtime since the particular card I was using
with it is now part of a system that is no longer here.  I forget the make and
model of that card but it was a Conexant chip based one.  It had decent vl4
support in the kernel.  The tuner wasn't any better then the Win-TV PVR one,
which is now the neighbours responsibilty.

Myself I want to see if we can tweak the g400 breakout box to life as then I
have a comparison.

There is 32M but only 16M can be used by fb0 as the rest is reserved for the
second head (breakout box).  Once you get rid of the vga16fb and pick suitable
video parameter for fb0 then we can take it from there.

Heh, heh.  I doubt I could find that many floppies let alone a suitable drive. 
We can do better then that I am sure.

No.  Try it again and we'll see.  If we can at least communicate through there
then perhaps something could be worked out that will work for us both.  I doubt
netmail attachments will work unless you can contact me directly which we
potentially could work out but it'll have to be a internet connection.  Can you
connect to the internet from home?

Not me.  That is the card itself doing that from my understanding of it.

No.  I doubt any of that matters in the final analysis other then the bios
passing on the information about the agp interface and settings and nothing
useful about the agp card actually there.

:-)  First get the boot right.  What default boot resolution/bits do you want? 
Also disable the vgafb in the kernel and just keep the matroxfb stuff.
