Ellen,

Earthlink is not bad. They partner with a number of broadband providers, = plus
have a very extensive dialup network. My only problem with their = dialup
network has been that it seems in some cities they "partner" with = a local ISP
and I have to modify the login name to include the prefix = "ELN/". Not a biggy
once you have figured it out.

Why the text e-mail client? I have used the most virus prone e-mail = clients
(do I have to name them?<g>) for close to 5 years without an = issue. Its like
practicing safe-sex ;->

This sucks, compuserve no longer includes usenet. Supposedly since
about two weeks. (I discovered this the hard way last week. And the
first customer service person didn't even know what a newsserver was.
The one I got the next day said the service was discontinued about two
  weeks ago.)

Meanwhile I think Google Groups isn't usenet any more, but rather =
their
  own groups.=20

So... Maybe this means it's time to change my ISP finally. Which, =
if
I'm already doing, I may as well finally get broadband, it will make
working from home a lot easier. So, I guess ideally I need an ISP =
which
  a. provides RELIABLE broadband in SoCal
  b. includes usenet
  c. has dialup numbers across the country so when I travel if the =
Sprint
wireless signal isn't strong enough I can still connect.

And then I guess I need to decide on an email client. I want to get =
my
mail as plain text but to be able to see the full headers.

  Suggestions?
