Ärende: What's in... 4A.
=========================
Hi, James! Recently you wrote in a message to Ardith Hinton:

AH> No apology necessary, but thanks for the heads
AH> up.... :-)

JB> I was apologizing in case the message went to an
JB> errant message base, and to the moderator that
JB> would scratch his or her head with what in the
JB> hills I was going on about.

Okay. It didn't, anyway... or at least it got *here*, which is what
matters to me! If it appeared in some other echo as well I'd know that wasn't
from carelessness on your part, and we'd have a bit of free publicity.... ;-)

JB> I saw a spot on TV, where a pediatrician (That's
JB> the baby doctor, right?)

Close enough for jazz. More exactly, a pediatrician works with kids
up to 16 (including babies) & a neonatologist specializes in newborns.... :-)

JB> had a handful of techniques, that would quiet any baby
JB> that didn't have a health issue. Swaddling was big,

Yup. We did that with Nora too.... :-)

JB> it was quite predictable, in which kid reacted to
JB> which technique.

Uh-huh. A lot of grownups tried to calm Nora by holding her up to a
mirror... but she'd be even more distressed when she saw or heard another baby
in distress. She reacted the same way in the newborn nursery as well.... :-)

JB> The last was a tough customer, and the doc knew only
JB> the "Shhh" in the ear was the only thing that would
JB> calm him. He gave it a quiet go, a short go, and then
JB> he put some db's behind it, and sure enough, as if the
JB> kid was on cue...

Now, let me guess... when he was in junior high school Mrs. H. would
have to act as if she was throwing a tantrum before he'd pay attention. :-)))

AH> I also survived to tell the tale... [wry grin].

JB> That's the preferred outcome! <VVBWG>

Yes. When Nora was in hospital I saw how some of those nice, docile
people-pleasers made out. One died. One relapsed & had to have a bone marrow
transplant. We weren't so nice, but we were back home in record time.... :-)

AH> Not all "J's" are like that. Most are probably
AH> more intuitive and/or closer to the middle of
AH> the continuum. But those who aren't take up a
AH> lot of bandwidth sometimes. :-)

JB> This is starting to explain some behaviors that
JB> have bothered me for a long time.

As it did for me.... :-)

JB> I think the other extreme (Perceptive?) could be
JB> equally frustrating. If someone wants to delay
JB> decisions indefinitely, reserving "judgment" and
JB> perpetually on a fact finding mission. <?>

Agreed. If an SP can't resist snowboarding in "out-of-bounds" areas
because they don't like rules & feel they are invincible... or if an intuitive
person takes a lot longer to process all of the available data than others do,
because they perceive so much more... that can be a problem. Sooner or later
it will be necessary for them to arrive at a conclusion, ready or not.... :-)
